Basics on Kumar Sanu
Kedarnath Bhattacharya, who later came to be known as Kumar Sanu, was born on 22nd September 1957 in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. His father Pashupathi Bhattacharjee was a musician and Sanu learnt the tabla and classical music from him.
Sanu has a degree in Commerce from the Calcutta University. He started performing in 1979.
In 2009, Kumar Sanu was honoured with the Padma Shri Award by the Government of India. He has also made it to the Guinness Book of World Record in 1993. He sang twenty-eight songs in a single day.
Kumar Sanu’s Music in Movies
Kumar Sanu’s got an opportunity to sing for the movie Aandhiyan (1987). His big break came when Nadeem – Shravan chose him to sing almost all the songs for Aashiqui (1990). The soundtrack became a huge hit. He won his first Filmfare Best Male Playback Award for Ab Tere Bin from Aashiqui.
He won four more Filmfare Best Male Playback Awards for Mera Dil Bhi Kitna Pagal Hai from Saajan (1991), Sochenge Tumhe Pyaar from Deewana (1992), Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhen from Baazigar (1993) and Ek Ladki Ko Dekha Tho from 1942: A Love Story (1994).
Kumar Sanu is one of the judges on Sony TV’s Waar Parivaar and Zee Bangla TV’s Sa Re Ga Ma Pa.
