The Scuba Diver

A scuba diver is 1,000 feet below surface when his oxygen tank runs out of air. The diver doesn't make it up for nearly two or more hours, yet he does not die when his oxygen tank runs out.

Why didn't the diver die when his oxygen tank ran out and how did he reach the surface?
